It had never rained the way it did in July this year in parts of northern Gujarat. Heavy rains, floods, storm are natural occurrences that the inhabitants of this part of Gujarat haven’t experienced. So when it rained like never before in Banaskantha the nomadic communities of Nat and Vansfoda staying on the outskirts of Khoda village just did not know how to react. Khoda is the last village of Banaskantha’s Tharad block.

The families salvaged the maximum they could and rushed on the terrace of the village school. For the next four days they remained their surviving on the food packets dropped by the helicopters. Once the waters receded they reached the place their makeshift homes made of hay and boughs where, just to find there were no signs of their structures. Everything was swept away.  So what do they do now???

VSSM has worked with this families, has been instrumental in getting their Voter ID cards and Ration cards sanctioned. All this admit severe resistance from the villagers. They called up Shardaben requesting her to send some food.  When Shardaben set out with ration to aid these families all roads leading to Khoda were closed. She could only reach them on the 7 day after the floods. By now relief kits containing tarpaulins, vessels had reached Shardaben. Life will gradually get back to normal. 

The families are heartbroken with the loss they have suffered but are glad that the water levels in the region had gone up and there is water irrigation now...

vssm દ્વારા ખોડાગામમાં રહેતાં વિચરતા પરિવારોને રાહત કીટ આપવામાં આવી.

બનાસકાંઠાના થરાદતાલુકાનું છેલ્લું ગામ ખોડા. નટ અને વાંસફોડા પરિવારો ગામથી દુર સીમમાં રહે.. ૨૦૧૫માં આવેલા મુશળધાર વરસાદે આ વિસ્તારમાં પુરની સ્થિતિ સર્જિ. પાણી એવું ધસમસતું આવ્યું કે, પ્રથમ તો શુ કરવું એની સમજ પણ આ પરિવારોને ના પડી. આમ તો એમની આંખોએ જોયેલું આ પહેલું પુર હતું.. એ જ્યાં રહે છે ત્યાં આવો મુશળધાર વરસાદ તો ક્યારેય પડ્યો નહોતો.. 

શક્ય એટલો સામાન લઈને ગામની નિશાળના ધાબા પર આ પરિવારો પહોચી ગયા. ચાર દિવસ બિસ્કીટ અને ચવાણા પણ પસાર કર્યા. પુરના પાણી ઓસર્યા એટલે વસાહતના સ્થળે  પહોચ્યા. ઘાસના છાપરામાં રહેતાં આ પરિવારોના ઘાસના છાપરાં તણાઈ ગયા હતાં. માથે હાથ દઈને બેઠેલા આં પરિવારોને શરૂઆત ક્યાંથી કરવી એ પણ પ્રશ્ન હતો.

vssm આ પરિવારો સાથે કામ કરે. ગામના વિરોધની વચ્ચે આં પરિવારોને મતદારકાર્ડ અને રેશનકાર્ડ અપાવવામાં vssm નિમિત બન્યું છે. ત્યારે આવી દુ:ખદ ઘડીએ vssm એમને યાદ આવે એ સ્વાભાવિક છે. vssmના કાર્યકર શારદાબેન સાથે આ પરિવારોએ વાત કરી અને આનાજ આપવા વિનંતી કરી. શારદાબેન આ પરિવારો માટે અનાજ લઈને ખોડા જવા નીકળ્યા પણ રસ્તા બંધ. પુર આવ્યાના ૭માં દિવસે આ પરિવારો પાસે પહોચી શકાયું. અનાજ સાથે સાથે તંબુ અને થોડી ઘરવખરી vssm દ્વારા આપવામાં આવી.. ધીમે ધીમે જીવન પહેલાંની જેમ પાછું ગોઠવાશે. આ પરિવારોને બધું તણાઈ ગયાનો રંજ તો છે પણ સાથે સાથે ખુબ વરસાદ આવ્યો, ગામની જમીનના પાણીના તળ ઊંચા આવ્યા છે એનો આનંદ પણ છે.

In the villages of  Khangarpur and Bhoradu of Banaskantha’s Tharad Vansvadee families stay on the banks of the village lake. The situation that followed the consistent rains and brought flooding waters flooded the lake. The water swept way the ones and belongings of these families. It also swept away the livelihoods of these families. The bamboo and cane purchased to make baskets, the goats the had were all swept away in the floods. Takhuben of Bhoradu say, “we have lost everything.”

VSSM provided the food grains, tarpaulins, vessels as immediate relief. VSSM is also committed to help these families  rebuild their livelihoods and spring back to their normal lives. The natural calamities of such gravity has an enormous impact on the lives of such communities who survive on the margins. They don’t own much to lose but all they own is enough to help them survive on daily basis…..imagine losing that thread to survival….

બનાસકાંઠાના થરાદ તાલુકાના ખંગારપુર અને ભોરડુંગામમાં વાંસવાદી(વાંસફોડા) પરિવારો તળાવની પાળે રહે. ૨૮ જુલાઈના રોજ આવેલાં પૂરમાં આ પરિવારોને નુકશાન ના થયું પણ સતત વરસાદના કારણે તળાવ ભરાઈ ગયું. વળી તળાવની બહાર પુરના પાણીનું દબાણ પણ ખરું આમ તળાવની પાળ તૂટી અને આ પરિવારોનું સર્વસ્વ લુંટાઈ ગયું. વાસણ, કપડાં, ગોદળા સાથે આખું છાપરું તણાઈ ગયું.

vssm દ્વારા ખંગારપુર અને પરંપરાગત વ્યવસાય વાંસમાંથી સુંડલા ટોપલા બનાવવાનો સાથે સાથે બકરીઓ પણ પાળે અને એનું ઊન અને દૂધ વેચીને પણ થોડું ઘણું કમાય. પણ તળાવની પાળ તૂટી એમાં એમના બકરાં અને વાંસ તણાઈ ગયો. ભોરડું ગામના તખુબેન વાંસવાદી કહે છે એમ, ‘અમારું બધું જ તણાઈ ગયું.’ vssmએ આ પરિવારોને અનાજ, વાસણ અને તાડપત્રી આપી. એમના વ્યવસાયો પણ ફરી બેઠા થાય એ માટે vssm મદદ કરશે. કાળનું ચક્ર આ પરિવારોની માઠી અવદશાને વધારે માઠી કરતુ ગયું. આવામાં એમને આર્થીકની સાથે સાથે માનસિક રીતે બેઠા કરવાનું પણ કરવાનું છે.

VSSM relief reaches the flood affected nomadic families of Mangrol….

The Vasvadee settlement in Mongrol suffered  tremendously during the recent floods in North Gujarat. The families literally had to run for their lives. Their homes and livelihoods were washed away.  These Vansvadebe’s still practice their traditional profession of basketry. The raw materials for basketry, the baskets they had made everything was either swept away or decayed and rendered useless. The material remained submerged  in water for 5-6 days making it useless for any use. The families are absolutely broke with no raw material, surviving till livelihoods are restored is a big issue facing them.

The families called Shardaben for help. They were stranded in waist  deep waters and needed food and material to build a roof. On 10th the relief material reached them. For now the families found relief from hunger pangs. But what happens in future worries them.

On 24 August we had a meeting with all the nomadic families in the region who had lost their livelihoods in the recent natural calamity. The families are prepared to work hard to build up their livelihoods again and VSSM is committed to support them restore their livelihoods. VSSM will be providing them with interest free loans.

પૂરઅસરગ્રસ્ત માંગરોળમાં રહેતાં વિચરતા પરિવારોને vssm એ મદદ પહોંચાડી..

માંગરોળમાં વાંસવાદી પરિવારો વસવાટ કરે. બનાસકાંઠા જિલ્લાનાં અન્ય ગામોની જેમ વરસાદ વાવાઝોડા અને ઝાલોર પટ્ટાનાં પાણી ભરાતાં વાંસફોડા પરિવારો માંડમાંડ જીવ બચાવી નાઠા. વાંસવાદીઓએ તૈયાર કરેલ સૂંડલા, ટોપલી, ટોપલા પલળીને ખરાબ થઇ ગયા. લણણીની સિઝનમાં સુડલા, ટોપલાની જરૂર પડે અને એ માટે વાંસફોડા પરિવારો વાંસ લઇ આવેલા. આમ તો એમનું કામ જ વાંસમાંથી સુડલા ટોપલા બનાવવાનું પણ પુરના પાણીમાં વાંસમાંથી બનાવેલો સામાન પલળી ગયો અને કાળો થઇ ગયો. હવે આ સામાન કોઈ ખરીદવાનું નથી. સર્વસ્વ લુંટાઇ ગયું. કોઈ બચ્યું નથી. વાંસ પણ નહિ! સિઝન આવશે માલ ક્યાંથી લાવીશું? હવે દાડા કેમ જશે ?

અત્યારે કેડ સમાણા પાણી ભરાયેલાં છે. છોકરાઓ ભીખ માંગવાય ક્યાં જાય ? ચો તરફ પાણીમાં, રસ્તો ક્યાં હતો એય ખબર પડતી નથી. આવી પરિસ્થિતિમાંથી બહાર આવીને vssmનાં કાર્યકર શારદાબહેનને અનાજ અને છાપરું બનાવવા મીણીયું આપવા વિંનંતી કરી જે તા. ૧૦મી એ તેમને આપ્યું. મનમાં હાશ થઇ. પણ પાછા બેઠાં થવામાં હજુ ઘણો સમય જશે.

પૂરના પાણીમાં એમના વ્યવસાયને જે નુકશાન થયું છે એમાંથી એમને બેઠા કરવાના છે. તા.૨૪ ઓગસ્ટના રોજ આ વિસ્તારના તમામ પરિવારો સાથે ફરી બેઠા થવા શુ કરવું એ અંગે બેઠક થઇ. કુદરતની આ થપાટ કારમી છે પણ મહેનતથી બધું પાછું મળશે એવો એમને વિશ્વાસ છે. vssm આ પરિવારોને બેઠા કરવા વગર વ્યાજથી લોન આપશે અને એમણે ફરી કમાતા કરશે.. vssm સાથે સંકળાયેલા આદરણીય શ્રી નીમેશભાઈ સુમતિ અને આદરણીય શ્રી રમેશભાઈ કાચોલિયા આ કામમાં મદદરૂપ થયા છે જેમના અમે આભારી છીએ.

The Benap village in Banaskantha’s Vav block has a temporary settlement of Raval and Vansfoda (Vaas-Vadee) families. The unprecedented floods both due to rains and flowing water from Rajasthan swept away the homes and belongings of these families. The bamboo baskets prepared by the Vaas-Vadee families rotted in water, their raw material was all rendered useless.  For five days the families survived on the food packets dropped from air by the Airforce that had been called to carry rescue and relief operations. The families had taken refuge in the village government school. Still the feeling that they were better off compared to others who need to be evacuated in boats by the teams of NDRF prevailed amongst these families.

Once the communications were restored requests for food and grains started pouring in. It was difficult to survive on just biscuits and snacks. The VSSM kits consisting of food grains, tarpaulins, blankets, kitchen vessels etc reached these families.

We are grateful to our well-wishers for the prompt response to our call. The VSSM team is committed to all they can to rehabilitate these families  who have lost all they had in the worst ever natural calamity the region has faced.

વાંસફોડા પરિવારોના આજીવાકાના સ્ત્રોત ફરીથી ઊભા થાય તે માટે VSSM મદદરૂપ થશે.

બનાસકાંઠાના વાવ તાલુકાનાં બેણપમાં વાંસફોડા (વાંસવાદી) અને રાવળ પરિવારો વસવાટ કરે. તા. ૨૮મી જુલાઈના રોજ ભારે વરસાદ અને વાવાઝોડાએ પ્રકોપ વરસાવ્યો. તો રાજસ્થાન તરફથી આવેલ ઘસમસતા પાણીમાં ઝૂંપડા તણાઈ ગયા. વાંસવાદીઓએ તૈયાર કરેલ સૂંડલા, ટોપલી, ટોપલા પલળીને ખરાબ થઇ ગયા. લણણીની સિઝનમાં સુડલા, ટોપલાની જરૂર પડે અને એ માટે વાંસફોડા પરિવારો વાંસ લઇ આવેલા. આમ તો એમનું કામ જ વાંસમાંથી સુડલા ટોપલા બનાવવાનું પણ પુરના પાણીમાં વાંસમાંથી બનાવેલો સામાન પલળી ગયો અને કાળો થઇ ગયો. હવે આ સામાન કોઈ ખરીદવાનું નથી.

વસાહતમાં એવું પાણી આવ્યું કે જીવ લઈને ગામની પ્રાથમિક શાળામાં સૌને નાસવું પડ્યું. પાંચ દિવસ વાયુસેનાનાં હેલીકોપ્ટરમાંથી નંખાતા ફૂડ પેકેટ પર સૌએ ભૂખ ભાંગી. પણ રોટલા ક્યાંથી મળે ? આમ ઘણું પાણી પણ પીવા લાયક પાણી ક્યાં? NDRFની ટીમોની હોડીઓ દ્વારા ગામલોકોને ભયજનક સ્થળેથી સલામત સ્થળે ખસેડવામાં આવ્યા. એક આશ્વાસન હતું ભલે પ્રા.શાળામાં છીએ પણ આપણને તો હોડીની જરૂર નથી પડીને...

પુરના પાણી ઓસર્યા પછી વસાહતમાં ગયા ત્યારે જે જોયું એ જોઇને આંખો ભરાઈ આવી. હતું એટલું બધું તણાઈ ગયું – ખરાબ થઇ ગયું. ખાવા માટે ધાન પણ નહિ. સરકાર દ્વારા બીસ્કીટ અને ચવાણું મળ્યા કરે પણ રોજ બિસ્કીટ થોડા ભાવે? અનાજ આપો એવી વિનવણી. VSSM દ્વારા આ પરિવારોને ૨૦ દિવસ ચાલે એટલું રાશન અને તંબુ બાંધવા મીણીયું આપ્યું. વાસણ અને ધાબળા પણ આપ્યા. કુદરતના કારમા ઘામાંથી આ પરિવારોને ઝટ બેઠાં કરવા VSSMનાં સનિષ્ઠ કાર્યકરો પ્રતિબધ્ધ થયા છે. જેનો આનંદ છે.

VSSM started Relief Work For Vansfoda Community -  A Nomadic Community at Jesda Village.

Volunteers from Vicharta Samuday Samarthan Manch are distributing Relief Kit to the Flood affected Nomadic Community People at Jesda Village. A Humanitarian Activity with the motive to rehabilitate and giving them Basic Human Needss to survive for life is started by VSSM for heavy rain victimes of Vansfod Community people of Jesda village in Banaskantha.

The recent floods in northern Gujarat had devoted the entire region. 8 Vansfoda families stayed in the wastelands within  the the boundaries of Jesda village of Sami block in Patan. Just next to their settlement flows the the Khari river. The dry and parched Khari river got flooded and so were the boundaries of most of the villages on its banks. The waters roared in during the night and the families had to flee their settlement. The kids were hurled of the shoulders by the families who had to run to save their lives.  3-4 feet water flowed on the roads. The families took refuge in an Ashram situated in the village. After five days when the waters receded and the families visited their settlement there was nothing left  of the makeshift structure they called home.

Vansfoda are skilled at bamboo basketry but, as  the bamboo have become difficult and expensive to source  they have given up their ancestral profession for selling plastic pales and tubs. These families earned their living selling plastic homeware. All their stalked goods also got swept away  with the gushing waters. 

The relief kits by VSSM has reached these families but they will be requiring our support to restore their livelihoods. 

Inspite of being hit hard by a disaster of such gravity the families were positive and upbeat. Such spirit will definitely help them return back to normalcy soon. 

vssm દ્વારા પાટણના જેસડા ગામમાં રહેતાં વાંસફોડા પરિવારોને રાહત કીટ આપવામાં આવી

પાટણ જીલ્લાના સમી તાલુકાના જેસડા ગામમાં ૮ વાંસફોડા પરિવારો રહે છે. એમનો વસવાટ ગામની પડતર જગ્યામાં અને બાજુમાંથી ખારી નદી પસાર થાય. તાજેતરમાં પાટણ અને બનાસકાંઠામાં આવેલાં પૂરના પાણી જેસડાની સીમમાં ફરી વળ્યા. રાતના અચાનક એટલું પાણી આવ્યું કે, બાળકોને ખભે બેસાડીને વસાહતને એમના એમ મુકીને જીવ લઈને ભાગવું પડ્યું. રોડ પરથી પણ ૩ થી ૪ ફૂટ પાણી જાય. ગામમાં એક આશ્રમ આવેલો છે ત્યાં આશરો લીધો. ચાર દિવસ સુધી તો વસાહતના શુ હાલ થયા છે એ જોવા પણ ના જઈ શક્યા. પાંચમાં દિવસે વસાહતમાં પહોચ્યાં. પુરના પાણી ઓસર્યા હતાં પણ વજનમાં હલકો એવો બધો જ સામાન પાણી પોતાની સાથે લઇ ગયું..

વાંસમાંથી સુડલા ટોપલા બનાવવાનું મોંઘુ પડતા તેઓ પ્લાસ્ટીકના તગારા લાવીને વેચતા જે પણ તણાઈ ગયા. માથે હાથ મુકીને રોવા સિવાય બીજો કોઈ વિકલ્પ નહોતો. તાડપત્રી પણ રહી નહોતી. શું કરે? જે ભારે સમાન હતો એ પણ સતત ચાર દિવસ પાણીમાં રહેવાના કારણે બગડી ગયો..

આ પરિવારોને vssm દ્વારા અનાજ, તાડપત્રી, વાસણ આપવામાં આવ્યાં. રાહતનું કામ થઇ ગયું એમના પુન:વસનનું કામ બાકી છે. એમણે બેઠા કરવાના છે.. આ કારમો ઘા રૂપી જે ની થાપટ પડી છે એ સહન કરવાની કુદરત એમને શક્તિ આપે એ પ્રાર્થના..   

આ પરિવારોએ પણ હવે નિરાશા ખંખેરી ઝડપથી બેઠા થઈશું એવો નિર્ધાર એમને કીટ આપવા ગયા તે વખતે વ્યક્ત કર્યો.. એમની હિંમતને સલામ.
